Amalia Hoffman grew up in Jerusalem, Israel. Both her parents lost their entire families during the Holocaust. She is an author, illustrator and storyteller.  She will share personal reflections during the Memory Keeper Story Hour.

In her picture book biography, The Brave Cyclist: The True Story of a Holocaust Hero (Capstone Editions, 2019) she shares her story (ages 8+) about the Italian cycling champion, Gino Bartali who risked his life during the Holocaust and smuggled forged identification cards, hidden in his bike—so that Italian Jews could escape to safety. She shares her journey in writing the book after discovering Gino Bartali’s name in Yad Vashem- the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem where he was honored as a “Righteous Among The Nations” –an honor bestowed by Israel on non-Jews who saved Jews during the Holocaust.
