Memory Keepers Story Hour Speaker Series: Maddy Israel – 7pm Esther Loewenthal – 8pm

Maddy Israel’s grandfather Ben Israel grew up in Romania in the 1930’s, when he began to experience antisemitism and the effects of WWII. As a third generation Holocaust Survivor, Maddy is carrying on her grandfather’s legacy. Her safekeeping story won a Silver Key this year as part of the Scholastic Writing Awards program in the Hudson-Housatonic region.

Esther Loewenthal is the great-granddaughter of two Holocaust Survivors, Kurt and Gretl Lowenthal. She will tell the story of Kurt, who lived in Munich and escaped the detention camp of Dachau, where he was taken along with 30,000 other Jewish men the day following Kristallnacht.
