Leah Rozenfeld Sills learned as an adult that her father, Stephen Rozenfeld, as well as her grandparents Abraham and Eugenia Rozenfeld, escaped Poland and survived the Holocaust due to the immediate actions of Abraham, who obtained transit visas from Bolivian Consul General Bilbao. Later, the family received help from an Upstander – Clara, the family cook – whose actions aided in their safety; through the heroic action of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, a Portuguese Diplomat stationed in Bordeaux, France; and then through the efforts of an American vacationer, Mrs. Cole. Leah presents her family’s story of escape, both in the U.S. and in Portugal. Leah is a member of the HHREC Board of Directors and GenerationsForward Speakers Bureau, and she has presented her story accompanied by an exhibit entitled Call Me Stefan. Q&A to follow.
