IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center Appoints David Imamura to Advisory Board

The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center (HHREC) of White Plains, NY has announced that David Imamura has joined the HHREC Advisory Board.

Imamura was elected to the Westchester County Board of Legislators in a special election on February 27, 2023 to represent District 12, comprised of Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Edgemont, Hartsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, and Irvington. He was re-elected that November to a full two-year term that began in January ’24. He is the first Asian-American to serve on the Board of Legislators. Legislator Imamura serves as the Chair of the Saw Mill River Watershed Advisory Board and the BOL’s Law & Major Contracts Committee. He also is a member of the Board’s Housing & Planning, Information Technology & Cybersecurity, and Legislation committees.

David is committed to creating a Westchester County that is open and affordable to all, particularly in the areas of housing and childcare. He is proud to have assisted with the drafting and passage of the Westchester Immigrant Protection Act and the Westchester Discriminatory Harassment Law. And he has been instrumental in supporting the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community by ensuring Eid and Diwali are recognized as official school holidays in numerous districts and advocating across the County for inclusion of AAPI education in curriculums. He has also been widely heralded for his efforts to connect constituents with unclaimed funds residing with the New York State Comptroller’s office.

Prior to joining the Board, David served as Chair of the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission, Co-Chair of the Westchester Asian-American Advisory Board, Chair of the Irvington Democratic Committee, the Westchester Human Rights Commission, and the Westchester Complete Count Committee. Legislator Imamura received a Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. He is an attorney with experience in New York State election, campaign finance, and voting rights law. In 2022, he literally helped write the book on the latter. David was raised in Irvington, where his parents still live, and where he now resides with his wife and son.
