As we sit down to write this letter, we reflect on the state of our global and local communities. Unfortunately, this past year has seen a continuing rise in antisemitic acts and human rights violations, some with deadly consequences. No one should be made to fear for their life because of religious beliefs or personal differences.
The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center (HHREC) was recently the victim of antisemitic vandalism. The Garden of Remembrance, our memorial in White Plains, NY was desecrated. While this and every other hateful event is disturbing, we are proud that our Organization and community came out in full force to decry this act; we resolved to not back down. The action of a few was met with an interfaith vigil of hundreds. We are Upstanders, individuals willing to do what is right even in the most challenging of circumstances. We are asking you to please stand with us and support our work.
WITH YOUR HELP, WE WILL CONTINUE TO EDUCATE STUDENTS AND OUR COMMUNITY AGAINST HATE AND ANTISEMITISM.
- Your donation dollars have a direct impact on the lessons we teach by allowing us to reach more students; both in the classroom and with special programming.
- Each year, our Human Rights Institutes for Student Leaders grow and with your help, we can reach more potential Middle and High School Student Leaders.
- Your contributions enable teachers to take subsidized trips to Germany and Poland to visit Holocaust sites allowing educators to teach from example – not just from textbooks.
- We train second and third generations to tell their families’ Holocaust stories so they can pass on their legacy when Survivors can no longer speak. We also connect High School Students with Survivors ensuring another generation hears and shares these firsthand accounts of the Holocaust.
Please tell your friends, families and communities about who we are and the work we do. Help us to continue creating the next generation of Upstanders and be a part of our legacy – to educate our community about the dangers of hate and antisemitism and ensure that all people are treated with dignity and respect. With your help, next year’s letter will start out by saying that we are making a greater impact and together, we are changing our communities for the better.
